Out-of-School Education assistance program

One of the major objectives of Project Santushti is to provide out-of-school tuition assistance to school-going children in the age group of 6-14 by appointing trained tutors.

The objective of the out-of-school tuition assistance is to help improve learning outcomes among the beneficiary children who are studying in a school in class 1 to 8.

Critical Rates of School-Drop Outs in the Various States in India

School drop-out is a major problem in many states of India. In some states like Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal, the rates are alarming.

In Jharkhand, out of the 100 students enrolled in the pre-primary level, 17 drop out during the primary level, 47 drop out during the secondary level and 70 drop out during the senior secondary level.

In Bihar, out of the 100 students enrolled in the pre-primary level, 11 drop out during the primary level, 46 drop out during the secondary level and 45 drop out during the senior secondary level.

In West Bengal, out of the 100 students enrolled in the pre-primary level, 8 drop out during the primary level, 33 drop out during the secondary level and 45 drop out during the senior secondary level.

Lack of Quality Education is One of the Major Reasons

In many states in India, many schools have a lesser number of teachers than they should ideally have. This affects the quality of education and learning outcomes. Besides, in many families, school-going children in the age group of 6-14 are first-generation learners. So, there is no one at home to help with studies. A very large number of families cannot afford any cost of home tuition or any form of additional assistance.

Project Santushti to Help with Out-of-School Tuition

  • Project Santushti is in the process of appointing select class 12th passed candidates (for providing tuition to the children of class 1-5) and graduates (for providing tuition to the children of class 6-8) at the village level as Tutors and Supervisors.
  • All selected tutors and supervisors will be trained through a Training of Trainers (ToT) program which is of 14-days duration.
  • Post the 14-day training and on successful evaluation of performance, the trainees are appointed as tutors and supervisors.
  • The tutors provide out-of-school tuition at a designated place in a village while the appointed supervisors ensure the quality of tuition assistance being delivered.
